We often think that a goal itself is going to make us happy. So we focus on setting the goal we think will finally bring sense to our entire life and make us whole. We rack our brain to find the one thing missing, and we obsess over how to achieve it fast and furious. Our life becomes only about getting the goal; we focus all our attention on that one thing while everything else becomes secondary or drops from the radar.
When you walk or drive toward something in the distance, do you hold your breath until you reach it? Relax. Take a long, deep breath. When you focus only on your goal, you are not focusing on yourself. And who exactly is going to take you to your goal? The best way to reach any goal is to shift the focus onto yourself, to define who YOU are and who YOU want to be to live the intentional life of someone who gets what she or he wants.
A life lived in the present with fulfillment, intention, and self-worth is the cake! The goal is the icing.
So, how do you have your cake—and the icing? With my book 30 DAYS TO A NEW YOU: Get What You Want Through Authentic Change and/or in the E-course Get What You Want you will learn how to update yourself into who you are in the present so that you can be intentional now in creating your future.
Need an example? Let’s say that you know that when you get a good eight hours of sleep at night, you are more focused and functional the next day. Life runs more smoothly, and you get better results. Living an intentional life is choosing to plan your day so that you get a good eight hour of sleep—and being consciously aware that, if you choose not to sleep eight hours, your performance the next day will be different, and you may not get your intended outcomes. Simple as that. No drama. No complaints.
Our circumstances change all the time. Give yourself 30 DAYS to get to know yourself for who you are in the now, so that you can make decisions with clarity and ease—ones that get you where you want to go, step by intentional step. Get to know yourself, get what you want.
Be the baker who makes the ideal cake. Then pick your icing, any icing you want! |
