Personal Branding
Trends are powerful and so are buzz words. The concept of “branding” has been trendy for quite a while, and it doesn’t appear to be losing popularity. Previous to this decade, “brand” and “branding” were synonymous with big, well-known, yet inaccessible corporations whose success was admired even though most of us could not identify with them. Sure, small businesses tried to emulate these giants, but most small business owners didn’t feel they were worth having a brand name.
Fortunately, much has changed. Now we are proud to talk about our mark in the business world. We are proud to talk about ourselves as a brand. And we market our value as the key factor that differentiates us from other businesses offering what we offer.
Our personal branding is what sets us apart from everyone else. It is about our ability and determination to show the world not just the product or service we sell, but “who” we are and the “value” we offer. Our customers want value, and because customer service is one of our top values, we offer it to them.
When you catch yourself thinking that you have to hire someone to establish your personal brand, think again—and take yourself to lunch. Or to the gym. Or somewhere socially where you can shine and where your passion for your business can highlight the way for your best clients to find you.
Yes, you still need all the bells and whistles of optimization and technology. Don’t forget, though, that “YOU” are the main ingredient of your personal brand. So show yourself off!
That is my wisdom about branding and personal branding, and I’m stickin’ to it!
